Michael Allan “Mike” Rater

Michael Allan "Mike" Rater, 55 of Clymer, NY and formerly of Florida passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016 at his residence.

He was born on April 7, 1961 in Westfield, NY, the son of Martin Paul Sr. (Mary Lou) Rater of Concord, N.C. and Shirley M. Prindle Rater Armburger (long- time companion, Edward L. Coons) of Clymer, NY.

Mike was raised and educated in Corry and graduated from Corry High School in 1979. Following high school he served in the U.S. Navy from 1980- 1984.

He was a Parts Manager for Napa Auto Parts in Sanford, FL. He relocated to Clymer, NY and worked at Applebee's Drywall. Mike was also a salesperson for Napa Auto Parts in Corry and Union City stores.

Mike was a member of Corry Central Labor Club. He enjoyed reading James Patterson and John Grisham novels. He was an avid NASCAR and Mark Martin fan. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors and he loved sitting around a campfire. He also enjoyed singing Karaoke. Mike was the life of a party and was usually the center of attention. He would light up a room when he entered and he had a wonderful sense of humor. He was always telling jokes and making people laugh. Mike was kind hearted and loved cats and dogs. He truly enjoyed spending time with friends and especially his family.

In addition to his parents, Mike is survived by two sons, Brett M. Rater and Brandon L. Rater both of Deland, FL; three brothers, Randy P. (Marion) Rater of Waterford, PA, Timothy L. (Brenda) Rater of Clymer, NY and Dennis C. (Lori) Rater of Spartansburg, PA and; two sisters, Melody M. (Paul Jr.) Covey of Clymer, NY and Sherry L. (Billy Joe) Braswell of Clymer, NY; three half- brothers; Ronald (Debbie) Rater of N.C., Martin P. Rater Jr. of Maryland and Brian (Carolina) Rater of N.C., one grandson, Forest Rater of Deland, FL. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews whom adored him.

A Celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, 316 East Fifth Street, Jamestown, NY.
