North Harmony Seniors hold Swiss steak dinner

November 16, 2016
Westfield Republican

On Oct. 17, at 7:30 in the morning, Sally, Paula and Norm stood over the big stove in the senior center preparing the Swiss steaks that would cook in the ovens for that night's dinner. Later that day Juanita and Sue decorated the hall with a fall dcor. The Whitman's, Wiggers and Sharon Klein came around 4:30 PM to cook the potatoes, prepare the vegetable dishes and set up the service table. Other members, attending the dinner, brought delicious desserts for the meal. As can be noted, this was the Annual North Harmony Seniors Swiss Steak Dinner.

By 6:00 PM, eighty- one people arrived, paid for their dinners, were led in prayer by Gordon Saulsgiver and enjoyed a fabulous feast. This event provided an evening of camaraderie, full stomachs and an opportunity for people to share their warmth and friendship. There was no entertainment scheduled for the night.

After the dinner, President Ferry thanked the host team: Norm and Paula Czubaj, Sally Carlson, Juanita and Paul Holthouse, Sue and John Whitman, Donna and Hal Wiggers, and Sharon Klein for preparing the meal, serving the food and cleanup afterwards. Bonnie Johnson was thanked for the baked birthday cake.

Birthday celebrants: Pat Saulsgiver, Barb Johnson, Myrtle Skiba, Laurie Magnuson, Dee Ellis, Sonny Warner and Doug Ireland were presented with the birthday cake and serenaded with "Happy Birthday to you". Doug and Bonnie Johnson, Charlie and Dorothy Kraus, and Sue and John Whitman received honorable mention for their wedding anniversaries. Guests and new members: Carol Rawlings, Bruce and Kathy Buckling, John Pratt and David Saulsgiver were introduced.

Roll call was taken and Mac McNeill, Anita Ferry and Will Ortman were not present.

Secretary's minutes and Treasurer's Report were presented and approved by the members. Steve Saulsgiver gave an update of future trips. Ellen Coffaro spoke on behalf of the Senior Council and mentioned the dates for their future meeting and events. Pat Saulsgiver reported that three get well cards would be sent to members. Paul Holthouse told the group that more sewing and knitted items were being produced. Izetta Ayling reported that there were one hundred and forty one members.

Members were reminded that a pork dinner would be served at the November gathering at a cost of $7.00

Gordon Saulsgiver concluded the gathering with a prayer of thanksgiving.
