November 30, 2016
Westfield Republican

The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation (NCCF) is accepting grant applications to the Northern Chautauqua Environmental Fund. Applications must be received by January 10, 2017, at 4:00 p.m.

The fund was established in 1999 to increase the community's knowledge of local environmental issues, particularly those related to Lake Erie and its watershed. Funding is available for a broad range of environmentally related educational activities, including awareness building events, hands-on educational experiences, and stipends for internships and lectures. Previous grants have supported the annual Envirothon, the purchase water testing supplies, the planting natural grasses and trees, STEM projects, student-led research and a wide variety of additional projects.

A past recipient commented: "The NCCF environmental grant program has helped me with purchasing new innovative materials that add to my Earth Science teaching The additional funding has been a positive infusion of materials that the school will not fund each year."

Grant awards typically average $500. All nonprofit organization with educational projects related to Lake Erie and its watershed are encouraged to apply. Educational institutions and other public agencies are also invited to submit an application.

For more information or to obtain an application, contact Eileen Dunn at 366-4892 or visit the NCCF website at www.nccfoundation.org/grants-programs.

The NCCF, celebrating 30 years of charitable leadership, is committed to improving the community through the promotion of local philanthropy, strategic grantmaking, and community leadership. Served by a small staff and governed by an all-volunteer board of directors, the organization has distributed over $12.2 million in the form of grants and scholarships within the community. Truly community in nature, the NCCF is an organization created by and for the people of northern Chautauqua County. For more information, visit www.nccfoundation.org.
