Ruth G. Russ

PANAMA - Ruth G. Russ, 96, of Burlington, N.C., formerly of 102 Arcade Ave., Jamestown N.Y., and Wesleyan Street, Panama, N.Y., died Saturday (Dec. 17, 2016) in Burlington, N.C., where she resided with her daughter..

She was born Jan. 5, 1920, in New Sewickley, Pa., the daughter of the late Frank and Eleanor Alstadt Gerber.

Ruth was a 1936 gradu-ate of Mayville High School, and was a member of the Panama United Methodist Church.

She was a wonderful homemaker and good cook and she entertained many family and friends at her different homes. Ruth had many interests including reading, gardening, sewing, crocheting and puzzles. She will be greatly missed by all and especially her cat, Sally.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary (John) Cole of Burlington, N.C.; six grandchildren: William (Nichol) Judson of James-town, N.Y., Jeremy Judson of North Collins, N.Y., Hope Cole and Grace Cole of Burlington, N.C., Faith (Ed) Piskor and Eleanor Cole of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one brother, Leonard Gerber of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and a son-in-law, Thomas Judson of Jamestown, N.Y.; and two great- grandchildren: Liam and Blaz Judson of Jamestown, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Russ, whom she married July 1, 1942, in Sinclairville, and who died Aug. 15, 2004; one daughter, Sandra Judson; and two sisters: Martha Stanford and Alma Phillips.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. The Rev. Steven Taylor of the Panama United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Dewittville Cemetery.

The family will receive from 10-11 a.m. today prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
