Richard J. "Tweedie" Rockwell

MAYVILLE - Richard J. "Tweedie" Rockwell, 84, of Plank Road, Mayville, died Sunday (Dec. 18, 2016) at Westfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 6, 1932, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of the late Rolland and Lorene Hall Rockwell.

Tweedie was a veteran during the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army from 1952-55.

He had been a teacher at BOCES in Ashville.

Tweedie was a life member of the Lake Chautauqua Memorial Post Veterans of Foreign Wars in Mayville, and the Wm L. Travis American Legion in Mayville. He also belonged to the Retired Teachers, War Vets, Chautauqua Lake Snowmobile Club, Jamestown Flying Aces, Rails to Trails, Chau-tauqua County Parks Commission, Antique Engine Club and the NRA.

He is survived by his wife, Alice DeBlasio Rockwell, whom he mar-ried Aug. 17, 1983; two daughters: Vicky (Burl) Swanson of Dewittville, and Tracy (Scott) Johnson of Dewittville; five grandchildren, Ronald (Jamie) Newman, Jenn (Shane) Houle, Nick (Angela) Raynor, Trisha (Norm) Smith, and Elissa Peacock; six great grandchildren; and one sis-ter, Linda Peterson of As-tor, Florida.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patti Peacock, who died Jan. 2, 2016; his mother, Lorene Rockwell Canfield; and stepfather, Roswell Can-field.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23 in the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. The Rev. Gary Henry will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
